Williamsburg Wedding: Diana and John, Part 2

Diana and John got married April 17 of this year, just a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to know how they met and fell in love. Diana very generously offered her story of how they met. I love the story of love, don’t you??!!

This is the story of John and Diana… as told by Diana…

John and I joined the Air Force exactly one year apart, John joined in November of 1997 and I joined in November of 1998. It was 10 years later when John and I met in September of 2007. I had just moved back to Virginia to be stationed closer to my family. We worked together and nothing more for the first year. We had mutual friends who constantly tried to “hook us up”.

In August of 2008, we went on temporary duty together (TDY). You could say that we had our first “date” there. We started a friendship, and there was an unspoken attraction between the two of us. We hung out together most of the time with a group of people, and if it was just the two of us, we were exercising.

It was nice having a friend I loved to hang out with. About a week before we finished temporary duty, we had our first “date”. I put that in quotations because it was McDonald’s and we had ice cream sundaes!

From that point on, we both knew that this would be a relationship that would last a lifetime. Love-at-first-sight was there and it was an amazing feeling!

When we returned home, we decided to quietly start dating… That didn’t last for long. We both started telling people all about each other within the first week! He was the most wonderful man I had ever met.

Our first real date was at Chuck E. Cheese. We took my daughter Alyssa and my nephew Logan. From the beginning, he was insistent that our relationship would involve my daughter.

Just a few short months later, right before Christmas, I told him that I loved him. There was nothing that I wanted more that to be with him and we were inseparable.

For many months, I had anticipated “the Question,” and by Christmas of 2009, I had hopes it would happen then, but I wasn’t optimistic. After we had opened presents that day, everyone gathered in the living room at my mother’s house.

John took my daughter to his side and gave her an open heart necklace, he said it meant he would be in my heart as well as my daughter’s heart for the rest of our lives. He then turned to me and brought out a mirror he had made for me. Then, the moment came. He pulled out the ring, dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife.

You know those times when you grow up and you picture the right person for you, the perfect person who you knew would make you happy, someone with blue eyes, dark hair, tall, handsome, and the most loving person you have ever met, all of those attributes I found in John.

Everything I dreamed of, he had.

Fast-forward to today. Our wedding was beautiful! it was a lot of stress for such a wonderful day, but it was all worth it.

It has only been a few weeks since the wedding. And I don’t think I have loved John as much as I do now.

Alyssa and I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and father who loves us!

What a wonderful story of love. There is nothing like being able to experience that joy with couples and their family and friends. I am blessed to have the opportunity!
